About me:
Hi! I’m Jacqueline Canovan, LCSW — a licensed clinical social worker who provides therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, and the long-term impact of growing up with emotional unpredictability or family mental health or substance use challenges. I also work with adults in recovery and those seeking steadier emotional balance and healthier relationships.
Therapy can feel intimidating at first — especially when you’ve been managing things on your own for a long time. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, respectful space where you can be yourself without judgment. My goal is to walk alongside you, offering compassion, practical tools, and support as you explore patterns that might be holding you back and build ways of coping that feel grounded and sustainable.
I draw from evidence-based approaches like mindfulness, CBT, DBT, interpersonal therapy, and strengths-based work to help clients develop emotional regulation, resilience, and more confidence in daily life. We’ll work collaboratively — you bring your experience, and together we’ll find ways forward that feel personally meaningful and doable.
I earned my graduate degree from New York University and have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including community mental health centers where I provided care to people from many backgrounds. I currently offer in-office sessions in Matawan, NJ, and telehealth therapy for adults in New Jersey and New York.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you deserve a place where you feel seen, heard, and supported. If you’re curious about what therapy might look like for you, I’d be glad to talk with you and answer any questions.
My Journey as a Therapist
My work as a therapist has been shaped by years in community mental health, where I saw how many adults struggled quietly with anxiety, depression, and the long-term effects of growing up in emotionally challenging or unpredictable environments. Many were motivated to change but had spent years pushing through without support that felt truly attuned or affirming.
Those experiences led me to create my own practice — a space where adults can feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. I strive to offer therapy that is thoughtful, practical, and paced, helping clients build emotional regulation, resilience, and a more trusting relationship with themselves.
