About me:

Hi! I'm Jacqueline Canovan, LCSW, LCADC — a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor. I provide therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, addiction and recovery, and the long-term impact of growing up with emotional unpredictability or family mental health and substance use challenges. Many of the people I work with are bright, capable, and quietly exhausted from managing everything on their own — including adults who are also navigating ADHD.

Therapy can feel intimidating at first, especially when you've been holding it together for a long time. I believe it should feel like a safe, respectful space where you can be yourself without judgment. My goal is to walk alongside you, offering compassion, practical tools, and steady support as we explore the patterns that may be holding you back and build ways of coping that feel grounded and sustainable.

My approach is integrative. I draw on attachment theory and interpersonal therapy to understand how your early relationships shaped the way you connect and cope today, alongside practical, skills-based tools from CBT and DBT. We'll work collaboratively — you bring your experience, and together we'll find a way forward that feels personally meaningful and doable.

I earned my graduate degree from the NYU Silver School of Social Work and have roughly 20 years of clinical experience across community mental health, inpatient, and outpatient settings, caring for people from many different backgrounds. Today I offer telehealth therapy for adults across New Jersey and New York, with limited in-person availability on Tuesdays in Matawan, NJ.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you deserve a place where you feel seen, heard, and supported. If you're curious about what therapy might look like for you, I'd be glad to talk and answer any questions.

My Journey as a Therapist

What pushed me to open my own practice was a pattern I kept seeing: capable, motivated adults who'd spent years pushing through anxiety, depression, addiction, and the aftermath of growing up in unpredictable families — often without ever finding support that felt truly attuned to them.

I wanted to build something different. Next Chapter Therapy is the space I wished those clients had: therapy that's thoughtful, practical, and paced to you, where the goal isn't just managing symptoms but building real emotional regulation, resilience, and a steadier, more trusting relationship with yourself.
